Playing Up and Down Age Groups

Playing Up

For players choosing to play one age group above their natural age group parents must email their request to toombuldccjuniors@gmail.com.

To assess the safety of any player seeking to play more than one age group above the player’s natural age group a request must be made to toombuldccjuniors@gmail.com and will be discussed and assessed with a TDCC committee member.

As per BNJCA rules, no player may play more than two age groups above the player’s natural age group.

Is Age Dispensation required to move within eligible grades?

U13 to Open Divisions

For the Under 13 to Open Divisions, which are competitive divisions, age restrictions are DEFINITE. However, TDCC Participation Policy caters for dispensation outside the eligible ages in these divisions based on a player’s physical development and in conjunction with their ability and/or experience, thus it may be such that he or she may be allowed to participate in an age grade competition that is one year above their eligible age grade.

Any BNJCA Championship player is permitted to play a year up, if requested.

As a Club, we believe Cricket is a confidence game. Players are encouraged to play in their age group, especially in the younger age groups, so that their skills could be improved.  By playing in his/her age level, not necessarily with children from his/her year level, it is a great way to make friends and will avoid complications when he/she reaches the U13’s, when the Club and Association are much stricter regarding the age policy.

Playing Down

The maximum number of over-aged players that can play in a lower age team shall be no more than two (2) players.

Ideally a player is to avoid playing down whose ability warrants that player being in their natural age group or a higher age group, so as not to impede the individual’s progress or to distort the outcomes in the lower age group.

BNJCA rules do not allow players from U12 to Opens age groups to play down without advanced written approval from the BNJCA and Toombul DCC Committee.
